Milissa, our family, and I would like to welcome you to our website and thank you for taking the time to learn about and research our program. Our roots are well established in Central Nebraska as the Birnie Family started farming and ranching around the Broken Bow area in the late 1800’s after immigrating from Ireland and Scotland.
Our program is centered on the cow and maternal efficiency. It is our desire to produce moderate sized cows that exhibit great femininity, in a capacious wedge shaped package with structural integrity, sound udders and quiet dispositions.
To achieve this, we use a straightforward selection process centered on the aforementioned criteria and a bell curve growth philosophy. We select sires that exhibit low to moderate birth weights with early growth and maturation in order to sustain a modest mature cow size. Longevity in the pedigree is critical as we elect sires from lines of cows that have a proven history of production and sustainability.
Our aim is to focus on our type and use the process of selection as a means to continue representing and refining our preferred type. This means avoiding extremes and minimizing the number of sires represented in order to maintain consistency both in our own herd and that of our potential customers. We will continue to refine our genetics as dictated by the goals and criteria that we have established for our herd.
Again, thank you for taking the time to visit our website and we hope you take the time to call, write or stop by if you happen to be in our part of the world. We welcome the opportunity to learn about your operation and goals.
